designed by Isamu Noguchi, 1951

Akari 120A brings soft, diffused light to a room through its generous round shade. Part of Isamu Noguchi’s Akari Light Sculptures, this pendant combines a substantial scale with the lightness of washi paper and the delicate rhythm of bamboo ribbing.

Each light is handcrafted in the family-run Ozeki workshop in Gifu, Japan. Strips of washi paper made from mulberry bark are glued onto bamboo ribbing shaped over a wooden form. A stylised sun-and-moon symbol marks the authenticity of the Akari collection.

The shade measures 120 cm in diameter and the pendant cable is 220 cm long. The light has an E27 socket with a maximum wattage of 12 W. Vitra specifies a non-dimmable 4 W LED light source with a colour temperature of 2700 K.
