The Bascule Highback armchair by Vitra combines exceptional comfort, innovative design, and relaxed elegance. Designed in 2026 by the Berlin-based Studio Œ, it features soft lines and a loosely draped fabric cover, whose form is inspired by tailoring techniques used in fashion design. The result is an armchair with a natural, cozy character that blends seamlessly into both modern living spaces and formal settings.

The key to comfort is a sophisticated reclining mechanism hidden beneath the upholstery, which automatically responds to the body’s weight and movements. The chair transitions smoothly from an upright position to a deep recline, almost to a horizontal position, allowing for a natural alternation between different ways of sitting and resting. The Highback version features a high backrest with a height-adjustable cushion to support the neck and head, further enhancing overall comfort.

The Bascule Highback is available with a swiveling four-leg aluminum base or a solid oak base. The fabric upholstery is available in various color combinations, including two-tone options, and because it is removable, it can be easily cleaned or replaced. The design emphasizes durability, repairability, and the ability to replace individual components.
