designed by Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby

The Mikado Armchair Low by Vitra is a low, upholstered armchair with subtly defined armrests and a calm, rounded shape. Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby designed its comfort around a combination of soft upholstery and a movable backrest. A simple mechanism hidden beneath the seat allows the backrest to recline slightly, enabling it to naturally adapt to changes in sitting position.

The four-legged swivel base made of cast aluminum gives the chair a sense of visual lightness and freedom of movement. The backrest shell is made of recycled polypropylene, while the comfort of the seat and backrest is ensured by recyclable V-Foam. Fabric or leather upholstery allows you to customize the look to match your home interior, a hotel lobby, or an office lounge area.

The individual components are assembled without adhesive, so they can be separated by material for subsequent recycling. The upholstery can be replaced by qualified personnel as needed, which facilitates the restoration of the chair and promotes its long-term use.
