designed by Jean Prouvé, 1936

Rayonnage Mural by Vitra is a wall-mounted shelving unit that combines the natural grain of oak with distinctively shaped steel brackets. Jean Prouvé originally designed it in 1936 for the École Nationale Professionnelle in Metz, France. His structural approach is evident in every detail: each element serves a clear purpose while contributing to a distinctive whole.

The streamlined profiles of the two vertical brackets, made from bent sheet steel, recall the rudder of an aircraft or ship. Solid natural oak shelves with an oiled finish slot into precisely cut horizontal openings. The contrast between metal and wood gives the shelving unit a sculptural presence that suits a living room, study or dining room.

The steel brackets come in four original Prouvé colours: deep black, Japanese red, Prouvé Blanc Colombe (Ecru) and Prouvé Bleu Marcoule. Aluminium wall mounts are included. The natural oak shelves are the same across all four colour versions.
