The Bascule Lowback armchair by Vitra combines compact proportions, exceptional comfort, and relaxed elegance. Designed in 2026 by the Berlin-based Studio Œ, it features soft lines and a loosely draped fabric cover, whose design is inspired by tailoring techniques used in fashion design. The lower backrest gives the armchair a light, effortless appearance and allows it to blend naturally into living spaces, hotel interiors, and prestigious settings.

The key to comfort is an innovative reclining mechanism hidden beneath the upholstery, which automatically adjusts to the user’s weight and responds to body movements. The chair allows for a smooth transition from an upright sitting position to an almost horizontal position, providing exceptional freedom of movement and comfort while resting. The soft padding, combined with the carefully contoured cover, creates a pleasant feeling of comfort without interfering with the natural movement of the frame.

The Bascule Lowback is available with a swiveling four-leg aluminum base or a solid oak base. The removable fabric cover offers a wide selection of colors and materials, including two-tone combinations, and can be easily cleaned or replaced.
