designed by Studio Œ

Vitra’s Bascule Highback & Bench consists of a lounge chair with a high backrest and an upholstered Bench footrest. Studio Œ incorporated tailoring techniques from the world of fashion into the design: the fabric cover loosely wraps around the frame, and its cut allows the frame room to move. Delicate folds and soft upholstery give the set a relaxed, cozy look.

Hidden inside the chair is a mechanism that automatically adjusts to the user’s weight, responding to shifts in weight distribution and allowing for a smooth transition from an upright sitting position to an almost horizontal position. The height-adjustable neck pillow supports the head, while the Bench provides comfortable support for the legs. It can also be used on its own as an upholstered stool and moved between different locations in the room as needed.

The removable covers make it easy to clean or replace them, and individual parts of the chair can be repaired or replaced as needed. This well-thought-out design combines comfort for everyday relaxation with a focus on ensuring the set’s long lifespan.
